What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the ninth and holiest month of the Islamic calendar, lasting for 29 or 30 days depending on the moon. During this month every healthy Muslim is required to fast from dawn until dusk, abstaining from food, drink, inhaled substances and non-essential oral medicine. The end of Ramadan is called Eid Al Fitr, a three day holiday to celebrate every Muslims achievement during the holy month. Celebrations and special events are held across the city with firework displays in some venues.
